CHILD DEVELOPMENT
Grades 9-12

A tour of the Family Birth Center at one of the local hospitals may just be one of the highlights of the course. You will study the basic needs of children, principles of human development, prenatal care, the birth process, and the responsibilities of being a parent.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION 1
Grades 9-11

If a career in teaching and working with young children appeals to you, this program will provide you with training in childcare and child care center operations. You will learn to develop age-appropriate activities for preschoolers. It is the first of a two- year sequence. Students have the opportunity to earn the Gold Seal Scholarship.
EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION 2 AND 3
Grades 10-12
Prerequisite: Early Childhood Education 1

Students meet with the instructor for a two-hour block of time where they are responsible for the t0tal operations of the Kiddie Hawk preschool program. Infant/Child CPR, first aid and 40-hour childcare training certification are included.
PARENTING SKILLS
Grades 9-12

The courses enable students to develop the knowledge and skills that will prepare them to care and nurture children. The content includes the following: growth and development, prenatal care, healthy lifestyle for expectant parents, heredity and environment, caregiver skills, and family relationships.
FAMILY DYNAMICS

The course prepares students for the roles, responsibilities and relationships essential to functional families. It helps students understand the nature, function, and significance of human relationships within the family and individual units.
PRINCIPLES OF FOOD PREPARATION
Grades 9-12

Have fun in the kitchen! Learn to plan and prepare a variety of foods, set a proper table and follow sanitation guidelines. Work with a team of classmates to make cookies, breads, ethnic foods, and much more. Expl0re the food pyramid and use it to begin making more healthful food choices. At the end of the semester, you will know enough to prepare a meal that will impress your family and friends.

Explore a career in Culinary Arts or improve your personal cooking skills. Class will focus on food service, restaurant management, food production, customer relations and marketing. Work with a team of classmates to plan and prepare a wide variety of items from pastries, cake decorating, sandwiches, main dishes, and more.
